Turner (1775-1851)

Turner est aisément considéré comme " le peintre de la lumière ". Après s'être nourri du travail des grands peintres paysagistes et de ses contemporains, il trace peu à peu sa voie singulière par une recherche audacieuse et innovante constante en matière de composition et dans ses choix chromatiques. Instigateur du paysage britannique fantastique, Turner pratique avant l'heure la " manière impressionniste " par le caractère vaporeux de ses compositions, mêlée à l'imaginaire romantique de l'époque.

Turner is undoubtedly considered as "the painter of light". After studying the work of the great landscape artists and that of his contemporaries, he slowly established his own particular style. His constant daring and innovative experimentation with composition, his choice of chromatics, the hazy quality of his paintings imbued with the romantic imagination of the time contributed to making Turner a pioneer of British fantastic landscape painting. Turner was also regarded as the precursor to impressionism.
