Ministère de la Culture / Minister of Cultural Affairs

Il y a cinquante ans, André Malraux est nommé ministre des affaires culturelles. C'est la première fois que les politiques culturelles en France sont confiées à un ministère autonome. Déjà en 1937, Jean Zay était appelé à la tête d'un ministère englobant enseignement et culture. Et au cours du XIXe siècle plusieurs personnalités jouèrent un rôle prépondérant dans l'implication de l'Etat en matière de patrimoine et de Beaux-arts, notamment Vivant Denon sous le Premier Empire et Nieuwerkerke sous le Second Empire. Le gouvernement d'Emile Ollivier sous Napoléon III compta d'ailleurs un " ministre des Beaux-arts " en la personne de Maurice Richard.

Fifty years ago, André Malraux was appointed Minister of Cultural Affairs. It was the first time that the cultural policies of France were entrusted to an autonomous minister. Previously, in 1937, Jean Zay had been appointed at the head of a ministry incorporating teaching and culture and in the 19th century, several key figures had played an influential role in the State's involvement in its cultural heritage and fine arts, notably Vivant Denon during the First Empire and Nieuwerkerke during the Second. Furthermore, the government of Emile Ollivier under Napoleon III had a "Minister of Fine Arts", Maurice Richard.
