Les Magnin ont montré une prédilection pour le portrait : en témoigne leur abondance d'une part, la qualité de quelques tableaux qui font partie des chefs-d'oeuvre de la collection d'autre part. C'est un regard contemporain et anthropographique, plus fréquemment posé sur l'art moderne et extra-européen du XVII au XIX siècle qui est proposé ici.
Le propos de l'exposition vise à expliciter quelques données qui rendent compte du portrait comme une construction culturelle. Le parcours est constitué d'une sélection d'oeuvres tant du domaine des arts graphiques, que de la peinture, miniature que de la sculpture.

The Magnins were particularly fond of portraits, which is demonstrated by the quantity and quality of the works of the collection. Some are considered to be among its masterpieces. The exhibition takes a contemporary and anthropomorphic approach mostly to which mainly covers modern art and non-European art from the 17th Century to the 19th Century.
The exhibition aims to explore portrait painting as a cultural construction. It contains a selection of different types of work including graphic arts, paintings, miniatures and sculptures.
