A Way of Life
A Way of Life

French art began to expand during the Second Empire. Society's way of life revolved around comfort, leisurely pursuits and splendour. It contributed to the development of a distinct style, characteristic of the era. The style of the Second Empire forged its identity thanks to a syncretism of ancient and exotic styles. It combined Greco-Roman influences from Antiquity, Louis XVI style and inspirations from Asia and the East. This melting pot resulted in a profusion of decorative motifs that appeared on furniture as well as objets d'art, fashion and also in the interiors of beautiful houses.
