A Tea Room for Eugenie
A Tea Room for Eugenie

Exhibition at the Château de Compiègne from 19 October 2012 to 29 January 2013

Empress Eugenie's Tea Room at the palais de Compiègne has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration programme. Its completion will be marked by an exhibition evoking the Empress' very personal style of interior decoration. Reflecting a new taste for society life, the Room's furnishings display remarkably modern characteristics such as comfort, artificial lighting and seating that can be easily moved around, aspects that would be rapidly adopted by a large portion of society. The exhibition will also provide the opportunity to present the challenges of this spectacular restoration project to the general public. Several teams of highly skilled restorers and craftsmen were employed to help restore this room to its original glory.
