The Americans and the First World War
In 1914, France, Russia and the United Kingdom entered into the First World War, and would be joined by many other countries throughout its duration. These Allies, also known as the Triple Entente, issued an appeal to the United States within the framework of a commercial and financial collaboration. In retaliation, Germany engaged in a sub-marine war against the American ships supplying the Allied countries. These repeated attacks pushed the United States to enter into the conflict. The majority of the 1.2 American men deployed were volunteers and US troops did not reach France before October 1917. It would be the year that went down in history as the major turning point in the war.
