Modigliani Amedeo (1884-1920)
Modigliani Amedeo (1884-1920)

"Happiness is an angel with a grave face".

Little known in his day, his lines and colours now captivate the crowds. Who does not recognise the "Modigliani" style today? Clean lines, melancholic, drawn out faces, elongated necks and empty eyes; his work focuses on the human face preserving an element of mystery in the portraits that he painted. Modigliani remained on the fringe of the period's stylistic trends and this "son of a king, prince of the spirit" lived only for his art and sought his own personal style: a form of sombre expressionism which betrayed his own existential difficulties.
