Battle of Normandy
At dawn on 6 June 1944, a fleet of 5,000 ships and 130,000 men, for the most part from Britain, the United States and Canada, approached the shores of Normandy. They were protected by 10,000 planes as they prepared to land on the beaches of Normandy. They were under the command of the American general, Eisenhower. During the night of 5 and 6 June 1944, 23,500 paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines and at the same moment, the French Resistance began sabotage operations the likes of which had never been seen before.
This Battle of Normandy is still the greatest logistical military landing operation in history.
