Titien, Tintoret, Véronèse... Rivalités à Venise
In the 16th century, rivalry between the great Venetian painters fostered a particularly rich artistic context. Competition and emulation between the three great masters, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese, were determining factors in the evolution of Venetian painting. The Musée du Louvre has organised an exhibition on this subject (from 17 September 2009 to 4 January 2010) which takes a fresh look at the artistic creation of the painters of the Serenissima Republic in the second half of the 16th century. The three geniuses from the Venetian Lagoon adapted the Mannerist style of central Italy and faced with this prolific competition, engaged in a bitter struggle to obtain official commissions and produced some of the most famous works of art of the Venetian School.
