The Gisèle Freund photographic collection at the IMEC
In 2012, the IMEC (Institut Mémoires de l'Edition Contemporaine), which is responsible for conserving and exploiting the photographs of Gisèle Freund, entrusted the commercial distribution and digitisation of the collection to the Photo Agency of the RMN (Réunion des Musées Nationaux).
As well as creating digital prints, which allow fragile documents to be archived and preserved, the Agency was tasked with restoring the artist's original slides, their colours having faded with the passage of time.
To bring the colours back to their former glory, without adding a personal interpretation to Gisèle Freund's work, the Agency's photographic laboratory used processes designed to correct the original files and reproduce them in a way that faithfully reflects the artist's vision.
