Romy Schneider (1938–1982)

Actress Romy Schneider was born in Austria on 23 September 1938 and made her debut at the age of 15 alongside her mother Magda Schneider, playing young romantic girls in films such as the Sissi series, which launched her international career. She starred in her first French film in 1958 and from then on took roles as bold, modern women, most notably in the films of Claude Sautet. Her career saw her working with some of the very best directors, including Luchino Visconti, Orson Welles, Pierre Granier-Deferre and Claude Chabrol, as well as Jacques Rouffioson in her final role in La Passante du Sans-Souci (The Passerby) (1982).
