Don Quixote celebrates his 400th birthday

Written by Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), the famous Spanish novel, "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha” or “El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha”, was published in Madrid in two parts, in 1605 and 1615: this event will be celebrated during 2015-2016.
The rich iconography associated with this famous book is proof that the colourful character, Don Quixote, has long inspired artists.
“He is the noble knight, the idealist who fights against windmills, the dreamer who takes his hallucinations for reality, he, master and squire, and Sancho, his feet on the ground, prosaic manservant. They represent a pair whom we still find in reality, allies and enemies at the same time, a duo that resists changing times.” Daniel Serra, Jaume Serra, Cervantes y la Leyenda de Don Quijote, Spain, 2004.
