Claudia Cardinale
Claudia Cardinale

An international star of the 1960s, Claudia Cardinale’s beauty and husky voice made her a household name.
She was spotted very early on by leading Italian directors, and was offered her first major role by Luchino Visconti: the beautiful Angelica, who charms both uncle and nephew, played by Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon. Cardinale remained faithful to Italian cinema throughout her career, appearing in Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West and La Storia by Luigi Comencini. She also worked with some of the best international directors, including Henri Verneuil, Werner Herzog, Blake Edwards and Richard Brooks, and shared the screen with Alain Delon, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Marcello Mastroianni, Jacques Perrin, Lino Ventura and Henry Fonda.

Cardinale remains in demand: in Niente di serio (2017) she plays an old woman who escapes from her retirement home to take a last trip to Venice.
