The Amerindian collections of the Musée des Jacobins in Auch
A stunning collection of Pre-Columbian and Latin American religious art is now on display at the Musée des Jacobins, whose galleries include antiquities, sculpture, paintings and popular arts and traditions. An explorer from Auch called Guillaume Pujos was the driving force behind the collection, to which ethnographers and archaeologists contributed. The Musée des Beaux-Arts now houses the second largest Amerindian collection in France, after the Quai Branly. The collection includes rare items such as ancient statuettes and the Mass of Saint Gregory, a masterpiece of colonial art enriched by its dual culture.
