The Gardens of Versailles
The Gardens of Versailles

In 1661, Louis XIV commissioned André Le Nôtre to design and create the gardens of Versailles which, in his view, were as important as the palace. The work was immense. Over forty years, thousands of men, sometimes whole regiments, transformed what had been woodland, meadows and marshes into flower beds, an Orangery, pools and canals.
