Bagnols sur Cèze, Musée Albert André
Bagnols sur Cèze, Musée Albert André

Yielding to friendly pressure from his friend Auguste Renoir, in 1917 the painter Albert André agreed to become the curator of the museum founded by Léon Alègre. In 1923, a fire destroyed part of the collections; donations poured in from many sources to help replace the destroyed paintings by artists such as Monet, Renoir, Vollard, Signac, Bonnard, Marquet and Valtat. In 1971, a donation by Georges and Adèle Besson helped complete the remarkable collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings gathered by Albert André. Works by famous masters such as Matisse, Bonnard, Van Dongen and Picasso are the jewels in the collection created with passion by an enlightened art lover and critic.
