Hokusaï, born in 1760, remains the most famous Japanese print artist.
"The Old Man Mad About drawing", genius of the print, is a virtuoso artist, painter, drawer and engraver.
The range of themes he painted is extremely varied: daily life scenes, shunga (erotic prints), surimono, illustrations of contemporary literature, landscapes ("Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji"), flowers and birds, manga.
His work, covering 30,000 drawings, influenced a great number of European artists.
