Bruno Réquillart
Bruno Réquillart
Born in 1947, Bruno Réquillart, after studying graphic arts and communication, started taking photographs around 1967-68. His work is mainly in black and white, demonstrating his "erudite" approach to the photographic image. Mixing the reporting and conceptual art forms, Bruno Réquillart pursues an unceasing quest for the identity and ontology of the photographic image. the setting of the aperture, the depth of the optical field, the negative grain that the photographer will employ on his subjects, the sea, a journey, Versailles or the finite nature of the private space of a Parisian apartment.
Representative of a "French school" (Bernard Plossu, Pierre de Fenoyl) that acknowledged the formal modernity of American travel and creative photography (Charles Harbutt, Lee Friedlander), Bruno Réquillart's work has been exhibited and honoured many times.
