Louvre Museum – Department of Islamic Art
The 2012 opening of new galleries devoted to the Louvre Museum’s newest department – the Department of Islamic Art – is the culmination of the museum’s largest construction project since the Grand Louvre project. It features one of the world’s richest and most beautiful collections of Islamic Art.
With more than 15,000 artefacts, plus 3,500 works from the Department of Decorative Arts, this collection bears witness to the diversity of artistic work spanning 1,200 years of history across three continents, from Spain to India.
