Bulloz Agency
Jacques-Ernest Bulloz, responsible for relationships with modern artists, worked at Braun, Clément & Co until
1897 or 1898, when he founded his own agency at 21 rue Bonaparte, in the Beaux-Arts district of Paris. It was
especially interested in collections belonging to the City of Paris, and was appointed as official photographer
of its municipal museums. In 1903, he signed a contract with Auguste Rodin, which remained effective for 15
years.
After Jacques-Ernest Bulloz died, the agency was taken up by his son, Jacques, and then by his grandson
Pierre in 1965. Because regulations were stricter in the 1980s, the Bulloz family no longer had the proper
authorisation to shoot photographs in museums. The institutions had to live several years on its business.
The collection is now owned by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, who purchased it in December 1999.
