Malmaison and Bois-Préau – Châteaux and Museums
In 1799, Josephine Bonaparte purchased La Malmaison, thereby entering the site into the annals of history.
Architects Percier and Fontaine were commissioned to update the residence to the day’s styles, along with the
surrounding park and garden. The rooms were then furnished in a Greco-Roman style that we can still admire
today. Josephine gradually surrounded herself with the works of the Old Masters, antiquities, precious objects,
and more. This château-museum not only houses a beautiful collection, but it also gives us an intimate peek
into lives of one of the most prestigious couples in French history.
