Rennes, Fine Arts Museum
Works of art seized during the French Revolution, particularly those belonging to Christophe-Paul de Robien,
the former president of the Parliament of Brittany, helped create the Museum of Fine Art. The works are
exhibited in the former university palace, which was inaugurated in 1855 and in 1991 became “palais des
musées”. Exhibited paintings include major names, such as Véronèse, Rembrandt, Botticelli, Dürer, Rubens,
Chardin and Picasso, which honour the museum, but its most famous masterpiece remains The Newborn,
painted by Georges de la Tour.
