Valenciennes, Fine Arts Museum
An academy of painting and sculpture was founded in 1782, and its collection is accessible to the public. The
Fine Arts Museum opened its doors in 1801, and the museum was renovated in 1991. The collection reflects
the history of Valenciennes, with a collection from the Academy, seized art from the Revolution (including art
from the family of Croÿ), Flemish paintings, archaeology of the city and regions and collections of natives of
Valenciennes. The most famous are Watteau, J.B. Carpeaux, Hiolle and Lemaire.
