Rembrandt and the face of Jesus
Rembrandt and the Passion of Christ... An exhibition at the Louvre Museum from 20 April to 18 July 2011. Studies of the Bible, and particularly of the figure of Christ, play a central role in the Master's drawn and painted work, and the paintings, drawings and engravings devoted to the subject reflect a personal and intimate vision. With his use of colour, light and chiaroscuro, Rembrandt was deeply expressive and managed to draw the viewer into an intense and dramatic narrative, where the sole objective was to tell a story where humanity and divinity, sensitivity and realism met.
