Hearing
Hearing
Hearing is the sense that allows us to detect sound. Depending on our own personal sensitivity, the sound's intensity or repetition, and more generally the circumstances of our hearing it, a sound can be considered an irritation, a "noise" in the negative sense of the word, or pleasant and even musical when it is appreciated. Our world, both in the urban environment and the countryside, is rich in sounds, even in the most distant corners of the planet, where listening to the silence can also be a pleasure. There again, everything depends on the circumstances in which silence is perceived.
By their very nature, sound and silence are invisible. Therefore, representing them in art can sometimes turn out to be a perilous exercise and they have been portrayed in as many different forms as there have been artists to portray them.
