Waves
The wave motif made its appearance in both painting and photography during the 19th century and became a recurrent theme in the work of Gustave Courbet towards 1869 with his "Paysages de mer", his "landscapes of the sea". Hokusai, Lacombe, Nolde, Frantisek and many others, seized upon the sea's power of fascination and the enormous freedom of expression that it allows.
Breaking down, endlessly duplicating, fixing perpetual movement in place; the wave becomes substance, surface and energy.
