Modesty
Modesty

Modesty is a social norm and a very relative notion, highly complex, with numerous implications, varying from one country to another, across cultures and over time.
Whilst children can run around naked, with no modesty issues or hang-ups, the same cannot be said for adults.
The parts of the body that it is acceptable to display nowadays differ greatly from those people could reveal in years gone by: whilst in the past, women hid their ankles and shoulders, nowadays they wear miniskirts and bikinis without being the least bit embarrassed at displaying their body.
Our emotions, our feelings and their expression, our attitude and our gaze must also be discreet.
Decency and restraint are linked to honesty and virtue, showing our reserve in the face of things that might shock or interfere with either social order or conservative morals, constituting an "offence against public decency".
But our modesty is also a guarantee of our dignity, ensuring that we maintain a private space for our personal freedom, which allows us to choose whether or not to reveal our secret garden to others.
