Cézanne in Paris.
Exhibition at the Musée du Luxembourg, from 12 October 2011 to 26 February 2012.
Cézanne is often associated with Provence, but he spent over half his life in and around Paris, painting the banks of the Marne River and the town of Auvers-sur-Oise, as well as several portraits. It was in Paris that he earned the recognition of critics, dealers and collectors. No other artist had as great an influence on modern art: from the post-impressionists to Kandinsky, the avant-garde viewed him as a trail-blazer, "the father of us all" in Picasso's famous words.
