Vauban Room in the Musée de l'Armée (Army Museum): the cavalrymen's room
On 10 August 2011, the Vauban Room in the Musée de l'Armée (Army Museum) in the Invalides reopened to the public with a new, redesigned collection. This followed an overhaul of the museum's classification methods and layout, along with the installation of new lighting, a rethinking of the arrangement of the cavalrymen themselves, and a renewed focus on the history of the cavalry between 1799 and 1870. The fourteen cavalrymen on display are arranged in three main chronological groups: the Empire, Restoration-July Monarchy and Second Empire periods. Each period is introduced by a sign explaining the organisation and functions of the cavalry at that time, and each cavalryman is accompanied by a wall label bearing a silhouette with captions identifying his main attributes.
