Henry IV's assassination
Henry IV's assassination

On 14 May 1610, Henry IV was stabbed to death by François Ravaillac in the rue de la Ferronnerie. With the signing of the Edict of Nantes, which brought an end to the Wars of Religion, France experienced a period of peace and prosperity. However, it did not bring an end to the hostility and dissatisfaction of those opposed to the King. Henry IV's assassination has prompted various theories of Jesuit plots and conspiracies at the head of the State, but Ravaillac always insisted that he had acted alone.
