 International Film Festival
International Film Festival

In 1946, the International Film Festival was created in France to reward the best film, best director, best actor and best actress in an international film competition. Over the years, the number of prizes awarded has grown. Now called the Cannes Film Festival, its 63rd edition will run from 12 to 23 May 2010 in the Palais du Festival on the Croisette where the films are normally screened. The event, celebrating the Seventh Art, attracts thousands of film-makers, journalists, photographers and members of the public; it now receives more media coverage than any other cinema festival in the world. Actors and actresses revel in the traditional walk up the steps covered by the internationally famous red carpet. Over sixty men and women have received the highest award. Some French and many Americans, and some revelations and others recognized for a career of achievement, have been awarded the prize by the Jury.
