Louis XV furniture
Louis XV furniture

Louis XV furniture is characterized by its lightness and its curves, which broke away from the more solid and pompous forms of Louis XIV furniture. Many original models were designed on a noticeably smaller scale. Fanciful and elegant, the furniture of the period also met the requirements of comfort, in keeping with the new smaller, more intimate proportions of the apartments.
The rocaille style of the French Regency had already begun the movement towards undulating forms: the legs of the Louis XV chairs bend and narrow; the chests of drawers are curved.
The most representative ébénistes (furniture makers, who drew their name from the ebony they used) of the period are: Cressent, Delanois, Séné, Folio.
