American Modern Art
It took the Second World War and the influx of artists from all over the world , for the United States to prepare itself, ten years after the opening of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, to "steal the idea of modern art", in the words of Serge Guilbaut. New York became a leading centre of art: the spontaneity of abstract expressionism, the chromatic values of geometric abstraction, the illusion of cinetism or Op art, the "popular and the everyday" representations from Pop Art, the formal dryness of minimalism, the enhancing ideas and thoughts behind conceptual art become the multiple facets of the American artistic prism.
