Tarzan the wild child
One of the most common myths since the beginning of our civilisation has been that of the human child raised by wild animals. From Romulus and Remus, to Mowgli or Friday, popular culture and news items have created a number of stories that captivated us as children. Tarzan, the character invented by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912, is one of the best known myths of the wild child. Both superhuman and a "noble savage" (who has escaped the corrupting effect of society denounced by Rousseau), Tarzan expresses our uneasiness with today's technological society and a certain nostalgia for Nature and our roots. The "Tarzan!" exhibition will be held this summer at the Musée du Quai Branly.
