First Empire furniture
First Empire furniture took its inspiration from Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian art. Imposing, solid and hieratic, furniture from the period is influenced by the personality of Napoleon I. The ornamentation takes on a real visual language capturing the regime's symbols of power: bees, eagles and lightning bolts. Military motifs and certain Egyptian design elements also evoke the Emperor's campaigns.
The most representative ébénistes of the period are: Jacob-Desmalter, Marcion, the Jacob brothers.
