Jewellery of the Second Empire
Jewellery of the Second Empire

Historical and sentimental jewellery kept at the Palais de Compiègne evoke the splendour and private life of the Second Empire: a brooch bearing an effigy of the Empress Eugenie, elegant cameos, a precious chatelaine... Elegant, glamorous treasures, jewellery for the evening or for the stage, moving tokens of affection; some pieces come from the imperial family and its entourage and others from celebrity figures of the Parisian elite, such as the singer Hortense Schneider.
The Palais de Compiègne has put together an exhibition of an exceptional collection: 160 restored pieces of jewellery which, on the occasion of the on-line publication of its catalogue (http://www.bijoux-malmaison-compiegne.fr), shall be shown to the public for the first time in its entirety.
