Berthe Morisot
Berthe Morisot

Exhibition at the Musée Marmottan Monet from 8 March to 1 July 2012.

This is the first retrospective of the work of Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) to be presented in Paris for almost half a century. 150 paintings, pastels, watercolours, drawings in red chalk and charcoal, from museums and private collections across the globe, retrace the career of the Impressionist movement's best-known female painter.
This selection of works covers the whole of Berthe Morisot's career, from her early days whilst she was being trained by Corot until her last work. Women and children were the theme of most of Morisot's works, and this exhibition reveals the artist's subtle, delicate style. Portraits of young girls at a ball, dressing, in a garden, and those of her daughter Julie, reveal the evolution of her painting, which, in the eyes of her contemporaries, embodied Impressionism par excellence.
