Eugene Isabey (1803-1886), through lanes and shores
Eugene Isabey (1803-1886), through lanes and shores

Exhibition from 5 July to 17 September 2012 at the Musée du Louvre.

This Eugene Isabey exhibition represents a new exploration of Norman and Breton landscapes through the work of an artist whose palette and virtuosity make us consider nature in a different way. Assembled primarily from the richness of the Graphic Arts Department collection, this summer exhibition focuses less on his historical works than on his innovative exploration of the Normandy and Brittany coasts. From Étretat to Saint-Malo, this turbulent vision of rugged coasts, battered by winds or basking in the sun, reminds us that we are looking at the work of a true artist -who sees and presents nature in a different way. His work influenced both Jongkind and Boudin.
