The École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris has a very long history, which began when Louis XIV founded the Royal Academies of Painting and Sculpture in 1648 and Architecture in 1671. It harbours creativity as well as artistic collections, covering all disciplines from painting to photography. The School has a rich heritage, bequeathed by the Royal Academies and further expanded until 1968: the works of its students, including winners of the famous Prix de Rome, all the instructional models used for training purposes and occasional donations, of which old master drawings are the most striking example.
