Amadeo de Souza Cardoso

An exhibition of Amadeo de Souza Cardoso's work is currently being held at the Grand Palais, until 18 July. Most of the works featured in this retrospective have been preserved by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation or in private collections.

Discover the artist and his works, in which Souza Cardoso responded to the burgeoning avant garde movements of the time as well as his famous contemporaries – Modigliani, Brancusi, Sonia and Robert Delaunay – while asserting his own unique style: "I do not follow any art school. The schools are dead and gone. We, the new generation, seek only originality: Impressionist, Cubist, Futurist, abstractionist... A little bit of everything." (Interview with Amadeo at Joao Moreira de Almeida, Lisbon, 4 December 1916).
